Governor Wes Gifford
July 1, 2024 ~ June 30, 2025
Welcome to the new District L Page!
As a 13-plus year Lion and a retired senior executive, since joining Lions I have strived to educate not only myself but others in Lions about the opportunities our organization offers our communities each day. There are so many less fortunate individuals who need some type of support...and who better to serve them than Lions!
Our organization has goal-oriented people serving and doing the best they can. However, we need to change the way we are “doing business”. The future Lion is looking for the opportunity to serve in their community. They meet in a different fashion. They talk using different tools However, they enjoy doing “service” for others and not only give of their time they also contribute to the cause they believe best fits their needs. What we have done is work to find new clubs, grow our membership by more then we may lose, and train others to be better leaders. Thus we “Drive to Lead, Grow, and Serve.” Come join us on this journey, we need you!
Upcoming Events
Dear Lions,
The first District Rally for this Lion’s Year is scheduled for August 10th at Eastside Baptist Church. This rally will give us the opportunity to catch up and see where we are headed this upcoming year. Last year the Lions of District 18-L did a great job in many areas and especially in Environmental and Vision Screening. The screening checked thousands of students. By working closely with the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation many of the students most in need of a screening were seen and the Lighthouse followed up with eye exams and glasses, when needed. There is increased support for even more screening. Lions are there for lending support whether in urban, suburban or rural areas in need.
We have also seen the conclusion of another wonderful Youth Exchange program. Georgia sent eight inquisitive youth off to Europe and hosted sixteen students and a couple of counselors from around the world. The program visited all the way from North Georgia to The Georgia Lions Camp with a side trip to the Okefenokee Swamp.
This year’s Evening in the End Zone on October 8th is quickly approaching. Whether at the Rally on August 10th or by email let me know if there is any interest in a District-L table at EEZ.
All of you Lions have an important role to fill. Service Projects can now be tied to any of the eight LCI initiatives. Most importantly, you and your local club are in a unique position to know what is needed in your city, town or county. You and your club can decide your response to these needs. Combine that with Lions efforts all over the world wherever the need is great, you will find a Lion.
So please register and make your plans. to attend our Rally on August 10th. This is the first step in 2024-2025 “Let’s Work Together”
